Allan B. Repp. USMC 1965-69

Allan Benson Repp grew up in Speonk, NY, a small farming community on the eastern end of Long Island where there “wasn't much action” so he decided to join the Marine Corps.  Allan would eventually be deployed to Vietnam and serve with the 1st Engineer Battalion, 7th Marines as a Combat Engineer. “Went to different posts. We used P53 mine detectors. I mean, we swept from roads to roads where a lot of trucks went through.  Then I was selected for what they call SLF Special Landing Force, or BLT, a Battalion Landing Team.”  Allan would serve on both the USS Valley Forge and USS Tripoli but didn’t spend much time on ship.  “I don't know how many missions I was on off that ship in six months, I'm gonna say at least eight. And sometimes we didn't even come back to the ship. Changed ammunition, went to the next battle.”  Most of Allan’s missions would be outside Way City either sweeping for mines or as a Tunnel Rat during and after the Tet Offensive.  “A lot of cleaning up the messes, pushing to the Laos and Cambodian borders.”

During our interview Allan spoke about close friends he lost during the war; Kenneth William Mokuau, Jr, James Harold Pigott and Raymond Terrence Conway.  We would like to honor their sacrifice by sharing link to their pages on the Vietnam Virtual Wall.
