John Melillo - U.S. Army 1970-1972

John Melillo’s Vietnam journey is reflected through his “Life Goes On Part 2” Painting Series painted from original photos he took while serving in Vietnam. Plus, over 60 pieces of his additional works that were inspired by his experiences growing up in Southampton, Watermill and Sagaponack NY where his heritage goes back to the 1890’s. John Melillo was a MP (Military Police Officer) in Vietnam. His job was front line supervision of 26 MPs supervising any situation Civil or Combat in Long Binh, which was the largest Military Installation in Vietnam, involving over 40,000 GIs and 60,000 Vietnamese.

Jimmy Jackson joined the Army in 2003 right after his 17th birthday and was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was part of the 2nd Infantry Division,3rd Brigade, 23rd Infantry and stationed mostly in Mosul. After leaving the military in 2007, with the rank of Specialist E4, Jimmy wrestled with PTSD but discovered a new mission by founding a non-profit organization called “Do You Give a Ruck?’ that organizes ruck marches to fundraise for veterans causes and to raise awareness of the problems veterans face adjusting back into civilian life.
