Sam Eskenazi – U.S. Army 1964-66
Sam Eskenazi attended Washington State University where he participated in ROTC eventually earning a commission in the U.S. Army and serving as a Second Lieutenant with the 1097th Boat Company at Cam Ranh Bay in 1965. The 1097th primarily offloaded equipment and supplies from cargo ships anchored in Cam Ranh Bay. A few months after being deployed to Vietnam he became the Public Information Officer/Protocol Officer for Cam Ranh Bay. Sam was responsible for communicating information to the public, arranging logistics for military and government officials as well as celebrities’ such as Bob Hope and others during USO shows.
