Angie (Hodge) Agundez – USAF 1997- 2002
Angie Agundez grew up in North Dakota and served in the United States Airforce as a Public Health Specialist. Public Health’s mission focuses on disease prevention and occupational health rather than clinical treatment. They are responsible for everything from educating Airmen on safety procedures and food inspection to investigating hazardous materials and sanitary standards.
Some of the highlight of Angie’s service include tours in Korea where she was stationed at Osan Air Base and Italy where she was stations at Aviano Air Base. Angie served in Italy during U.S. operations in Kosovo and had to inspect tent city, porta-potties, mess halls and showers for sanitation on Aviano Air Base.
During our interview Angie spoke about the importance of having women in our military. “Most women have more empathy, I guess, than a lot of men and sometimes drastic things happen or traumatic things and I think sometimes a woman is the one to help work through it or to calm you down. So, I think that's important and it gives women the opportunity to work in a job that was generally for men.”
