Ed Britt enlisted in the U.S. Army in Jan 1949 and retired as a Command Sergeant Major after 32 years of service. Ed served with the 82nd Airborne before volunteering for Special Forces and serving 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. During his career CSM Britt received the Legion of Merit, 2 Purple Hearts and 3 Meritorious Service Medals.

Mr. Edgar (Ed) Christopher Britt, 88, passed away on December 14, 2019 at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, Florida.

He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts and lived in Sebastian, Florida for 38 years coming from Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1981.

Ed was a United States Army veteran retiring after serving 32 years. During his career he received medals and commendations as follows: Bronze Star Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Master Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Dom Rep), National Defense Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Civil Action Medal 1st class, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Germany Army Marksman Award in Silver, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (10th Award), Legion of Merit, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Non-Professional Development Ribbon. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major.

He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, Florida.

Ed was a member of the Special Forces Association (Life Member), 82nd Airborne, Son-Tay Raid , American Legion Post 189, and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1038 (Life Member).

Survivors include his daughters, Karen A. Blair of Middleboro, Massachusetts and Deborah White (Ron) of Sebastian, Florida; grandsons, Gregory M. Costa (Andrea) and Brandon White; granddaughters, Rae Costa, Karen Hassey (Paul), Ashley White and Christa White; great grandson, Brandon Hassey; great granddaughter, Darrien Hassey; and great great granddaughter, Kemelah Stephson.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen Louise Britt in 2011.
