Emilie Truman was born in the Philippines and moved to the United States in 1984. In 1988 Emilie joined the U.S. Navy serving in Singapore, Guam, Hawaii, Japan and Bahrain. “I worked in the deck department as a deck seaman, starting from the bottom, E1, chipping paint, grinding rust, all that.”
Emilie would be deployed as relief during the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo volcano eruption, Korean Airlines crash, 2004–2005 tsunami relief, 2011 Japan earthquake/tsunami/Fukushima nuclear incident as well as being deployed to Iraq.
Emilie would serve aboard several ships during her 30-year career including the USS Dixon, USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George Washington and retire as an E9 Master Chief. “Being an E9 in the Navy, it's only 1% of the Navy.” - Emilie B. Truman
