Evelyn Kandel - U.S. Marine Corps 1951-53

Jimmy Jackson joined the Army in 2003 right after his 17th birthday and was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was part of the 2nd Infantry Division,3rd Brigade, 23rd Infantry and stationed mostly in Mosul. After leaving the military in 2007, with the rank of Specialist E4, Jimmy wrestled with PTSD but discovered a new mission by founding a non-profit organization called “Do You Give a Ruck?’ that organizes ruck marches to fundraise for veterans causes and to raise awareness of the problems veterans face adjusting back into civilian life. Evelyn Kandel - U.S. Marine Corps 1951-53

Evelyn Mary Crumlish Kandel served in public relations and as a spokesperson for Women Marines in Washington DC as well as with USMC recruitment in California. Sergeant Crumlish posed for posters and a commemorative stamps for women in the service. After being discharged from the Marine Corps Evelyn received a Masters Degree and taught and worked as an artist all while raising her family. In 2019 Evelyn was selected as Nassau County Poet Laureate.
