Ina Casali - U.S. Navy 1967-70

Ina Casali served with the U.S. Navy WAVES from 1967-70. Ina trained at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, MD and was stationed at Charleston, SC Naval Station as a Personnelman working for the Commanding Officer. The WAVES Barracks was located in the hospital complex. Ina served during the Vietnam War's Tet Offensive, many times comforting the wounded as they returned home from the war.

After leaving the Navy, marrying and raising a family, Ina when to college eventually earning an MFA in English & Writing.

Ina was instrumental in forming the Suffolk County Community College Student Veterans Association Chapter at the Grant Campus and served as the Advisor.

The WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) was established in 1942 by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
