Submarine Veterans Monument Dedication - Vero Beach, FL
The Submarine Veterans of the Treasure Coast dedicated a monument to all lost submarines and submariners Oct. 27, 2025 at Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary. The dedication coincided with national Navy Day, recognized by President Harry S. Truman Oct. 27, 1948, to honor the strength and service of the U.S. Navy.
Attendees of the Vero Beach service heard from John Michael Matthews, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary, as well as Peter Petrelis, president of the Treasure Coast Council Navy League of the United States; and keynote speaker William C. Andrea. Retired USN Capt. James Harvey led the dedication of the monument and presentation of the wreath.

During his speech Bill recognized the sacrifices of local Veterans who were killed in action including; 19-year-old Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jordan Hearter, 24-year-old Army National First Lieutenant Joe Theinert, and 24-year-old Army Specialist Orlando Perez. By saying their names we continue to honor these men for their ultimate sacrifice.
